Dogs Of War

The special forces of 14 countries conducted the big joint military exercise "Cold response" in minus 30 degrees in Narvik, Norway. The picture shows an Austrian special forces trooper training parachuting with dogs. Land, air and sea special forces participated in the exercise.
Kwinto, a military working dog with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, sits beside his issued protective gear in the northern Babil province of Iraq Nov. 5, 2004. His gear includes a flak jacket, safety goggles and booties made for canines. Kwinto detects explosives at vehicle checkpoints, on security patrols and during weapon cache sweeps while deployed. Life at Patrol Base Diamond II in Vietnam, 1969:
A dog helps its human friends stand guard at their patrol base near the Cambodian border, about 35 miles from Saigon. The base, manned by the 25th Infantry Division, withstood several communist attacks in the early part of April.
